Overview

“Easy” by Tammara Webber is an interesting story about two college students finding love against the odds. Jacqueline has trust issues after her boyfriend of three years dumps her, and she is drawn to Lucas, a “bad boy” who rescues her from an attempted rape. Landon helps Jacqueline pass Economics class with his tutoring abilities, but he also has secrets that come out later in the book. The reader will enjoy this novel because it demonstrates how people are not always what they seem on the surface.

Two weeks after Kennedy breaks up with her, Jacqueline goes to a party at his frat house and is attacked by one of the fraternity brothers. Luckily, she is rescued by an attractive stranger who seems to know her. She wants to forget about it, but keeps running into him around campus. She’s failing Economics because she missed two weeks of class, so Dr. Heller gives her a second chance with his tutor Landon Maxfield, whom she begins flirting with online.

Jacqueline and Lucas begin flirting, and they start dating casually. Buck spreads rumors that they are having sex because Jacqueline is able to escape from him when he tries to rape her in the stairwell of her dorm building. Erin insists on taking a self-defense class with Jacqueline where she meets Lucas who teaches the class. She is surprised that he is one of the tutors, but continues dating him without mentioning his secret. Kennedy tells Jacqueline that he misses her, but she no longer has feelings for him so she refuses to reconcile with Kennedy.

When Jacqueline is seen leaving Lucas’ apartment, he breaks up with her because it could get her in trouble and affect her grades. However, he takes the blame for what happened so that Jacqueline’s grade isn’t affected since she didn’t know that Lucas was tutoring her. The next day, after Kennedy tells Jacque about Buck raping Mindi at the party, she realizes that she misses Lucas and they kiss again. He reveals a bit of his past to her but refuses to give details when asked by Jacqueline who then decides not to resume their relationship because of how much pain it caused Kennedy.

As the semester is coming to a close, Lucas makes it obvious that he does not plan on continuing his relationship with Jacqueline because he doesn’t know if he can tell her about some of the secrets in his past. Unwilling to let him go, Jacqueline researches Lucas online and learns about his mother’s murder and how Lucas was restrained in his bedroom and unable to save her. Jacqueline feels guilty about how she acquires this information, but when she confesses her knowledge to Lucas and tells him that she also talked with Dr. Heller, he is furious and tells her to leave. Outside Lucas’ apartment, Buck attacks Jacqueline in her truck. She escapes, and when he catches up with her at home again later on in the driveway before attacking again; however just then as Buck goes for a punch towards Jacquelyn’s face; suddenly out of nowhere as if by magic or destiny perhaps even both seemingly appears miraculously from behind an unknown bush nearby unexpectedly standing there waiting for them right beside where they are standing moments before who else could it possibly be other than none other than their own very own hero himself no one else but our very own mysterious stranger whom we have come across earlier back at the diner all those many months ago now finally re-emerging once more like a phoenix rising from its ashes after having been gone for so long now reappearing yet again here making his second grand entrance into our story appearing right out of thin air seemingly magically appearing exactly when needed most much like some sort of guardian angel sent specifically by God Himself perhaps even Jesus Christ himself (as well as/or) Saint Jude patron saint of lost causes & desperate situations too only someone truly divine could possibly explain such unexplainable coincidence(s). ”
