Overall Summary

This book is about a lawyer who gets fed up with her boyfriend’s cheating and decides to sue him. The novel has received mixed reviews, some praising its humor but most criticizing the unrealistic plot, one-dimensional characters, and predictable ending.

Morgan is a 34-year-old lawyer who’s making her way up the ranks of her firm. She also has two close friends at work, one who she’s known since middle school and another who joined in high school. The first friend is shy and reticent, while the second one can be aloof and haughty. At home, Morgan hangs out with a neighbor named Andre who likes to offer his opinions on everything going on in Morgan’s life.

Although Morgan’s love life is not perfect, she has been in a relationship with Marcus Alexander for nine months. However, her birthday comes and goes without any mention of jewelry from him. She later finds out that he gave the same bracelet to another woman. They break up after he confesses his affair.

Morgan is depressed because her boyfriend cheated on her. Her friends, Altima and Ophelia, invite her out to help cheer her up. After a few drinks Morgan realizes that the only way for men not to cheat in the future is if there’s an incentive or punishment involved. She creates a contract that offers mind-blowing sex as an incentive to be faithful but also threatens financial sanctions for those who break their commitment.

After recovering from the breakup, Morgan meets Charles Sealant, a used car salesman with a million-dollar smile and charm to spare. They go out on many dates together and have fun. Finally, they get intimate in a heated moment before they actually sleep together.

Morgan is happy with her new boyfriend, and she feels like he’s a great choice. She tells her coworker Michael about him, and she thinks Michael is the perfect example of what a black man should be.

Charles was initially a good boyfriend, but Morgan quickly caught him cheating on her. She decided to take the law into her own hands and sue Charles for breach of contract. Michael helped Morgan throughout the trial even though he knew that she was suing an ex-boyfriend for breaking her heart. Meanwhile, Charles treated the whole thing like a joke because he ended up winning the case.

But, Morgan is not completely out of luck. She ends up with Michael, who has worked hard to get her attention and love.
