1-Page Summary of Wild Swans
A man is walking through a forest and thinking about the past. He remembers nineteen years ago, when he came to this place for the first time and saw fifty-nine swans on the lake. The sky was blue and birds were flying around in it. Suddenly, all of them flew away into the sky but now they are back again after 19 years. It makes him sad because everything has changed since then—even their wings beat less powerfully than before.
The author says that the swans are oblivious to time. They stay together and do what they wish, even when he is not there to observe them. The author thinks that this will continue even after he’s gone or when they move away from him. This demonstrates how some things never change no matter which way the world changes around it (e.g., a river).
